Saferstein’s basic philosophy in writing Criminalistics is to make forensic science understandable and meaningful to the nonscience reader, while giving the reader an appreciation for the scientific principles that underlie the subject. It can be read as a book rather than a textbook – in fact, I think the chapter summaries and the Questions at the end of each chapter are not at all good – but the information contained in the chapters is clear and very understandable, even when they are somewhat complicated scientific ideas.

I was thrilled to receive this textbook because the price is excellent. About this product Synopsis “Criminalistics” is the definitive source for forensic science because it makes the technology of the modern crime laboratory clear to the non-scientist. Saferstein has co-authored “Lab Manual for Criminalistics” Prentice Hall, to be used in conjunction with this text. In doing so, you are completely destroying or at least contaminating any trace evidence that could have been recovered and analyzed microscopically.
