Not the best book in the trio, but certainly kept me going as did the other two. Elizabeth was still actively pursuing him even though she knew Prince and Princess were most likely going to marry. The historical research with regard to the true historical figures such as Princess Caroline and Prince Leopold seems reasonable, but the behavior of the hero and heroine in this book doesn’t feel authentic, and the case-of-mistaken-identity plot device carries on longer than it should.

I liked Sumner as a hero, but at times his determination to deny himself because of duty became tedious. I couldn’t even skim this one. The central plot of this story is that of someone pretending to be someone else in order to protect him.
Of course Leopold, Charlotte and Sumner are in on the ruse but not poor Elizabeth. The most descriptive passages within an otherwise simple writing style concern Elizabeth’s clothing, of which she seemed inordinately interested. Elizabeth has a chance encounter with Prince Leopold of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfield and knows she has met her prince.
This is a passable read but nothing special.

It was rather confusing. And that is exactly what Elizabeth Royle intends to do. But katgryn ecstasy is short-lived as she quickly learns that the man she longs for is betrothed to someone else—a princess, no less.
